Japan = Oh so tempting

Moby | 20/9/2004

I’ve been Japan crazy lately. Can’t get enough of the food or small amount of culture I can find.
I’m even dredging up my 3 & 4th form Japanese!

and the article doesnt even mention the masses of snow it gets.

hmmph.

I want to go go go!
—

From the second you land, the Japanese-ness assaults you: the cab doors that open and close by themselves, the obsession with hi-tech toilet seats, the rows of vending machines selling hot and cold drinks in the street.

Almost no one speaks English, and when you do see or hear it, it’s usually some fruity Japanese interpretation – jet rug, eyes cream, pot ato fu rai, or the little boy in the lobby of our hotel saying to his sister “talko to the hando”.

There are also many contradictions: the drunk salarymen sleeping in the street at 3am, the wonderful understanding of space and scale, the constant desire for novelty and change in a culture built on ritual and honour.

All this adds up to a culture which feels completely true to itself; one that, despite its place at the forefront of globalisation, somehow remains undiluted and unhomogenised.

Tokyo – showing its true colours

2 Months and counting

Moby | 12/9/2004

With less than 2 months before my contract ends, I have to decide what to do with my life.

If you have any groovy ideas, let me know!

Still pondering travelling. The idea of contracting 2 – 3 days a week is really appealing to me also. This way I have time to focus on some of the hair brained schemes.

I think its time to sit down with the interested parties and discuss the $$.

Political Rant:
I PAY ENOUGH TAX TO SUPPORT 5 or 6 aussie bludgers. and thats bothering me!

Oz Snow Adventures

Moby | 6/9/2004

Wicked weekend was had.

They have 3 buses, their own lodge/pub/niteclub so its like hire a party!

the majority of the bus was relatively subdued. but we got the front of the bus crew rarked up a bit. One of the other buses had beer funnels, boxer runs thru McDees etc…

Saturday was primo weather, but the snow off piste didn’t soften up at all. extremely unforgiving. On trail was good tho.

Saturday nite it snowed in Jindy! and snowed most of the day sunday. So conditions were great. It was a bit wet, but freshies! no complaints!

All round a great trip. Think I might do their learn to surf trip.
