Oz Snow Adventures

Moby | 6/9/2004

Wicked weekend was had.

They have 3 buses, their own lodge/pub/niteclub so its like hire a party!

the majority of the bus was relatively subdued. but we got the front of the bus crew rarked up a bit. One of the other buses had beer funnels, boxer runs thru McDees etc…

Saturday was primo weather, but the snow off piste didn’t soften up at all. extremely unforgiving. On trail was good tho.

Saturday nite it snowed in Jindy! and snowed most of the day sunday. So conditions were great. It was a bit wet, but freshies! no complaints!

All round a great trip. Think I might do their learn to surf trip.

New Zealand was all around me!

Moby | 4/8/2004

So I managed to pull it off.

Booked tickets Thursday afternoon, went out for a few, finished packing 2am. Airport @6.30.
4 hours sleep

Checked in with the old work on arrival, to try and drum up some consulting business.
Then it was time to party!

Met up with Allister, Dave, Becky, Felicity & Shane
Bounced around some of the pubs.
Ang was in town and correctly guessed I would be found downstairs at Jet post midnight! :)

Decided to party the night away, and got Allister to pick me up from town 5am to head directly for the snow.
0hrs proper sleep

Met up with Jamie, Dave & Janet at the snow. Had a good day boarding with some large snow flurries but overall good visibility. A little bit hard off piste.

Margarihtas, the Lodge & Powder Keg at the Ohakune Junction were the venues for the evenings entertainment.

Powder Keg was full of Ponsonby Milf’s, and a good nite was had.
5Hrs sleep

Perfect blue sky day Sunday. Awesome day was had, apart from Kirsty getting severly concussed on the last run of the day. Wearing a helmet and all.

Its quite crazy how invincible we think we are.

On the way home was keeping an eye out for Becky, as everyones phones seemed to be flat.
Managed to spot Becky & Iain on their way thru Taihape to the snow. So caught up over a couple of beers.

Back to Wellington…

Monday was the day of Wellingtonism’s
Started the day with breakfast at Fidels. Some unsucessfull shopping was broken with Krazy Lounge;Krazy Fries.. mMmmM

Then managed to at least buy some stuff, and squeeze in another meeting with my old work.

Before hitting Matterhorn for some 42 Below cocktails.

Pushed onto Hede for some very good Japanese.
Shane, Ang, Antony, Becks, Alisha, Allister, Christine, Vince & Madeline made for a great evening.

4am off to the airport; wow. I can’t believe I fitted it all into 4 days.

Hit the wall last nite, another 22 hour long day finally breaking me.

50:50 Chance of New Zealand this Weekend

Moby | 29/7/2004

well, if you count:

A yes or no answer from:
My boss & workmate agreeing to let me take friday off work & not help with a major upgrade on saturday.

I’m not sure why I am feeling so positive. I guess because I want it to happen so badly.
Its a bank holiday monday – so that would make a 4 day weekend!

Jamie kindly keeps reminding me EVERY WEEKEND how good the snow is, txting or calling me from the mountain.

Fingers crossed, I will have a YES tomorrow! Tickets are still reasonably priced too! ~350 return!
Dreaming of Ruapehu…
And I will defiantely do the crater lake walk – I want to see it, to say I was there x weeks before one of the largest natural disasters in NZ’s history repeats itself. Tangiwai Disaster

How likely is it to happen?
“Since March 1999 the level of the crater lake on Mt Ruapehu has risen 52m and is now 96% full giving cause for concern for an early lahar – Volcanic mudslide…

The crater lake has a 7 m high wall of ash atop its rim and with the current water level 1.9m below the rim, scientists predict that at current water inflow rate of 5,300cu m a day a lahar could be expected as early as November.” March 04 – summary from Stuff.co.nz article

Full threat analysis – Ruapehu Lahar Residual Risk Assessment. Oct 2002
Quite interesting reading.

National Australia Toilet Map

Moby | 21/7/2004

Ever wondered where the closest public toilets are? (while simultaneously having access to the internet?)

Wonder no more.

The National Public Toilet Map of Australia is here.

No you can get the most time efficient release of your waste possible. Unless of course you are at work/home and theres a toilet closer, which is hopefully a lot nicer then the above!

Office Wide Email – It’s Correct Use

Moby | 13/7/2004

What would one do without it?

Afternoon all.

I’d like to share with you all a disturbing event that came to light in the change rooms this afternoon. When going to don my shoes, I discovered that one of my black dress socks had disappeared.

Now, I’m a subscriber to the view that you should give first offenders a chance, so I’m willing to let this one slide. Let’s just say I won’t ask any questions if the sock in question is placed in the FY lost property bin by the end of this week. Normally I wouldn’t bother, but this sock was my grandfather’s, and now I’m walking around like an early-80′s Michael Jackson (with white sports socks); and just remember kids, white on black is a major fashion risk.

So if you are currently luxuriating in a bit of sock-on-sock action, I’d appreciate it back.
