Koh Chang

Moby |

Leaving Chaing Mai tonight, back to BKK for the LAST time!

then onto Koh Chang for a couple of days before hitting Cambodia on the 3rd.

Have met some cool people here, went to Muay Thai last night. Sally, one of the girls here is about to start muay thai training, and after what I saw last night (incl some Foreigner fights) I cant believe she wants to still do it.

Elephant Trek

Moby | 26/4/2006

An awesome 3 days in the hills. The trekking wasnt overly long, 2 hours at a time, but the heat defaintely takes its toll.

Had a great guide and group of people to hang out with. Helped fix a leaky roof ( leaf thatching) in our Accommodation in the Hill Tribe Village.

they are really cool. one of the elders was a stooped old lady, most of the time with a huge bananna leaf doobie hanging out of her mouth :)

Prob hang around chaing mai till Saturday :)

Kanchanaburi: Bridge over river River Kwai, Hellfire Pass

Moby | 22/4/2006

words kinda dont describe what you think when you look at the huge cuttings they made for hellfire pass using small picks, manual labor and dynamite.

And the 100,000 people who died making the railway.

ed: missed the anzac day ceremony as was in the hills around chaing mai trekking. So it was good to have checked these out

Overnight Busses

Moby | 19/4/2006

Last nite returned from Koh Pha Gan, to BKK

On the road it was a real experience to see the bus overtake a truck into oncoming traffi, and again on a blind corner. a flash of the headlights and just enough space is made.

Also making it an adventure: bus changeovers in Sura Thani.

We arrived on one bus, got shuffled off it, and basically everyone got split up. I ended up on a Ute w one other guy. I made the joke we have been selected for Kidney Harvest.

But what seems to happen is that everyone gets shared around to different staging areas (read: buy food/internet from us)

and then shipped back to get on the next bus a couple of hours later.

Not to mention that the convenient & cheap busses (ala kaosan rd) subsidise their operations by stealing anything they fancy from your packs.
